"Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion."

Martha Graham
7de jaar - Dans

Who are you?

You finished your secondary school and you have a passion for dance.

You dream of a future in contemporary dance as a dancer, a choreographer, a teacher or a dance therapist.

You are looking forward to a unique year during which the dance teachers of Kunsthumaniora Brussel (Art Humanities Brussels) together with international guest teachers and choreographers will introduce you in the field of work of contemporary dance.

You are dancing multiple hours a week and you have a broad interest in contemporary dance, performance and the wide range of professional art.

You are prepared to communicate in three languages (Dutch, French and English) and to dance in different disciplines and styles.

You dare to leave your comfort zone and you are prepared to start with an intense physical training.

What do we offer you?

We offer you a full year of dance experience.

You receive an intense education with courses as contemporary dance, improvisation, composition, placement, yoga, practical anatomy, classical dance, modern dance, singing and audiovisual training.

As extra muros activities we will regularly visit dance performances, lectures and try-outs to broaden your knowledge as an artist.

As intra muros activities we will organize short, intense thematic masterclasses.

On top of that we will organize three choreographic labs. You will get the chance to perform in three different choreographic creations that will provide you with extra stage experience.

Through self-reflection, coaching and work field orientation you take the route of this year in your own hands. You will create a portfolio and you will supplement your resume more firmly.

This is how we will prepare you for auditions for projects and companies, admission tests for higher education in dance and networking on your further path.

Language requirements for international students

Most of the dance classes and the dance classes with our partners (PARTS, Tic Tac Arts Centre, Ultima vez) are thought in English.

The dance classes in the kunsthumaniora are thaught in Dutch/French/ English.

However we do expect from foreign students to learn the basics of Dutch for daily life. A short oral language test needs to be passed in the month of january.

Admission
tests

To be able to start this unique dance year you have to pass for an admission test.

This test will be organized as a workshop in which we can evaluate your starting situation for contemporary dance, classical dance, your physical

condition and your creative curiosity and artistry.

After this admission test a personal interview will follow with feedback and the result of the admission test. When you pass the test a medical screening of the physiotherapist of the school will be the next step.

We have only a limited number of places for this unique dance year, so we will work with a waiting list if needed.
